William Petter Conductor

William Petter (1982–2016) was Musical Director of the Sine Nomine Singers from 2013 to 2016. A chorister at New College School, Oxford, he read neuroscience at University College London before studying as a tenor at the Royal Academy of Music, and sang with Philharmonia Voices, the choirs of Westminster Abbey and Westminster Cathedral, The Sixteen, Britten Sinfonia Voices and London Voices. He directed the professional choir of St Magnus the Martyr for ten years, as well as Concordia Voices and Sine Nomine, and in his last years composed a body of sacred music, recorded after his death. He died on 10 October 2016, a month after his 34th birthday; the choir's concert of 17 December 2016, Sing Lullaby, was given in his memory.

Hugh Petter Piano

Hugh Petter read music at Oxford and then won a scholarship to study the piano at the Royal Academy of Music. He made his debut playing Liszt’s E flat piano concerto with Sir Charles Groves and the Liverpool Philharmonic. His London recitals won critical attention for the intensity of his playing of works of the late romantic period. His repertoire stretches from Bach to Bartók and has included the complete Beethoven sonatas. For many years he worked as a lecturer for the extramural departments of London, Reading and Oxford universities. He worked as an improvising pianist at RADA and was pianist for the experimental improvisation group Theatre Machine. For 10 years he co-produced the annual cabaret at the BADA summer school. In recent years he has given many classical recitals on P&O cruise ships and the Queen Mary 2, and plays tonight’s solos as finales.
